CAUTION AREAS:
Pirate's Cove: This little anchorage is definitely worth a visit, but the entrance is very tricky. Consult the cruising guide and enter and leave during high tide. Grounded boats are not an uncommon sight here - don't let it happen to you!
Fisherman Bay, Valdez Island: There is a nice sheltered harbour on the north side and the entrance is lined with some old wooden boat skeletons and bald eagle perches, but don't attempt this unless the tide is almost high and preferably still rising with light currents.
Boat Passage: This pass crosses between Saturna and Mayne Islands, but is narrow with fast currents. The area outside the pass has confusing currents and rocky shoals and is best avoided.
Dodd Narrows: A safe and interesting passage, but only within 15 minutes or so of the turn of the tide. While some tides can generate only a few knots of current through these narrows, it is not unusual to for them to approach 10 knots of very turbulent flow.
